He married Willie Mae McGee in 1939. However, the marriage was short lived. When World War II broke out, Jarriet joined the army. While stationed in Alabama, he met and married Anna Pearl Davis. The couple had three children: Anita, Herbert, and Marilyn.
When the couple moved to Texas, Jarriet gained employment with the City of Fort Worth, and retired in 1977. Although his home was in Fort Worth, Jarriet often returned to his birth place of Limestone County where he would visit his relatives and enjoy the Juneteenth celebrations.
Jarriet had been a Methodist from his youth, and continued with his faith by joining the Johnson Chapel AME Church. He remained active in the church until his death on November 21, 1986.
