1st Lord Sheffield, Knight of Butterwick, Lincolnshire, son and heir to Sir Robert Sheffield and Joan Stanley, grandson of Sir Robert Sheffield of Butterwick and Helen Delves, Sir George Stanley and Joan le Strange.

Husband of Anne Vere, daughter of Sir John Vere, 15th Earl of Oxford, descendant of King Edward I, and Elizabeth Trussell, descendant of King Henry II. They were married before 31 Jan 1538 and had one son and three daughters, including Sir John who married Douglas Howard, daughter of Sir William Howard.

Sir Edmund was in the vanguard of the Army in France with 50 horsemen and 500 foot soldiers from Lincolnshire. Lord Sheffield was slain at Norwich, in an unsuccessful attempt to suppress Robert Kett's rebellion in Norfolk and buried at St Martins at the Palace, Norwich.
