Found in The State 23 June 1893 (in conflict with the headstone which gives a year of death as 1892): Yesterday morning another Confederate veteran passed over the river to join his many comrads who have gone before, when Mr. Adam I. Hipp, after a four months illness, died. Mr. Hipp was a native of Newberry county, but has lived in Columbia most of his life. He leaves a wife and four children. The funeral services will be held from the late residence of the deceased, No. 33 S. Devine street at 4 o'clock this afternoon.
