Richard was the fifth generation to farm the Ganfield family farm in Whitewater Township, Dubuque Co., Iowa, first settled by William and Charlotte Ganfield about 1855.

CASCADE, Iowa - Richard L. Ganfield, 76, of 1210 Fifth Ave. SE, Cascade, died Monday, Nov. 19, 2001, at Shady Rest Care Center, Cascade.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Community Presbyterian Church, Cascade, with the Rev. Willis Longer officiating. Burial will be in the Cascade Community Cemetery. Friends may call from 3 to 9 p.m. Friday at Reiff Funeral Home, Cascade, and from 9 to 11 a.m. Saturday at the Cascade church.

He was born May 13, 1925, in Cascade, son of H. Leslie and M. Evelyn (Martin) Ganfield. Richard was the fifth generation born on the family farm in rural Cascade.

He graduated from Cascade High School and attended the University of Dubuque.

He married Elaine Adele Oakley on June 16, 1946, at St. Peter's Lutheran Church, Dubuque.

He was a member of the Community Presbyterian Church in Cascade, where he served as an elder.

He worked as a construction electrician, and was a member of IBEW Local 145 of Rock Island, Ill., for many years before returning to operate the family farm. He advocated conservation of the natural resources of the land.

He was a member of the Masonic Lodge 551. He was a member of the Cascade Public Cemetery Board, and was a member of the Dubuque County Farm Bureau. He enjoyed teaching his grandchildren about the outdoors.

Surviving are his wife, Elaine Ganfield, of Cascade; two sons, Doug (Rose) Ganfield, of Waterloo, and David (Cathy) Ganfield, of Des Moines; three daughters, Darinda Ganfield, of Davenport, Debra (Steve) Schueller, of Hoopeston, Ill., and Denise (Robert) Knaack, of Pierson; 11 grandchildren and a great-grandchild and two brothers, Randall W. (Kathy) Ganfield, of El Paso, Texas, and Roger A. Ganfield, of Omaha, Neb.

He is preceded in death by his parents.

A Richard L. Ganfield memorial fund has been established.

The family would like to extend their thanks to the staff of Shady Rest Care facility for their care and concern for Richard.
