Tommy W. Shafer, 86, was born August 31, 1926, to Ocie Ella Morgan and Thomas E. Shafer, in Florence, Texas, in Williamson County.

He passed away March 2, 2013, at home surrounded by his family. Tommy had been a resident of Winnie since 1964.

Tommy was a WWII Navy veteran, serving in the Pacific front on the U.S.S. Sangamon. Shortly after the end of the War, he began working in the Texas oilfield and continued in this profession for thirty-eight years. He was a drilling superintendent for Goldrus Drilling Company until his retirement. Tommy loved his work and the people he worked with; he had a wonderful work ethic. After his retirement, his passions for gardening, fishing, wood working, and going to garage sales, kept him very busy. He was a member of First Baptist Church of Winnie.

Tommy leaves to cherish his memory his wife of sixty-four years, Patty Shafer of Winnie; children, Kay Shafer; Patsy Burnham; Tommy B. Shafer; and Kristine Touchet Reed; his treasured grandchildren, the loves of his life and his best friends, Clinton Burnham, Holly McDaniel, Rachel Touchet, Allison Burnham, Dustin Touchet, Heather Shafer and Colby Touchet; and great-granddaughters, that were the sunshine of his day, Gracie Mae McDaniel and Kate Olivia McDaniel.
