Ersie "Jane" Elkins of Whitesville went home to be with the Lord Sunday, Jan. 23, 2005, at Boone Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, Danville. She was born Feb. 18, 1916, in Lincoln County, a daughter of the late Walter and Sarah Harless Baker. She was a member of Sylvester Church of God, Sylvester, and loved the church and being surrounded by her family. She worked for 40 years for the Boone County Board of Education as a cook at Whitesville School and cooked for 25 years for the Whitesville Rotary Club. Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her loving husband of 70 years, Boyce "Cline" Elkins; a great-granddaughter, Erin Thompson; and a beloved son-in-law, Buck Barker. She is survived by four daughters and their husbands, Lorena Barker of Dorothy, Myrna and John Covic of West Palm Beach, Fla., Mauna Marney of Snellville, Ga., and Carol and Ed Gillis of Freemont, Calif.; 13 grandchildren, 31 great-grandchildren and four great-great-grandchildren; and a sister, Virginia Parsons of Huntington. She also leaves behind, and the family thanks, some wonderful caregivers at Boone Nursing, and a special "angel" named Ruby. Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 27, at Armstrong Funeral Home, Whitesville, with the Rev. Jerry Pauley officiating. Interment will be in Mordue Cemetery, Whitesville.
