Affectionately known to his friends as "Bark," Bernard Barker passed away on December 15, 2010 at the age of 95.
Born June 19, 1915 in Tekamah, NE, he grew up with four brothers and sisters in New Raymer Colorado. He served in the Civilian Conservation Corps during the Depression and was drafted into the army where he served as C Company captain of the 104th Infantry Division during WWII. On January 2, 1943, while stationed at Camp Adair, OR, he married Lotys Northup, also of New Raymer. Following the war he was employed by the Colorado Milling and Elevator Company, managing its flourmills in Denver, Grand Junction, Lamar, Twin Falls, ID, and Ogden, UT before his retirement in 1980.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 67 years; his brothers, Noel and Glen Barker; his sister, Janice Richardson; and granddaughter, Renee Hansen. He leaves behind three daughters, Moya B. Hansen, Carol (Ken) Louder, and Barbara (Dave) Dawson, a sister Beverly (Robert) Blair, four grandchildren, and five great-grandchildren. A celebration of Bark will be held in late December in Utah and a memorial in January in Denver. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the United Methodist Church of Ogden, UT or another charity of the donor's choice.
