BURSON, Alva Clay, married, W, M, employed by the Cooper-Bessemer Foundry, aged 58y 6m 19d, died at his home, 7 Walnut St., Mount Vernon on the 14th of March, 1955. He was born in Congress township, Monroe County, Ohio, 19 August, 1896, the son of Burr H. & Elizabeth (Shaffer) Burson. Surviving were two sons, Stanley and Douglas, three daughters, Florence, Norma and Janet, four brothers, and one sister. Buried in Rivercliff Cemetery, Mount Gulead, Morrow County, Ohio.

~ MOUNT VERNON NEWS ~ Monday, 14 March, 1955 - Alva Burson Hangs Himself After Attending Church - Alva C. Burson, 58, a machinist at the Cooper - Bessemer plant, attended church Sunday night and then hanged himself in a shop and garage at the rear of his home, 7 Walnut St., officials reported today. The body was found at 12:50 a.m. by Don Kemmer Jr., a step-son, who started to search when Burson did not return home after church, police said. Dr. C.L. Harmer, county coroner, gave a verdict of suicide and said he was told Burson had been worrying about a son, Stanley, who recently went into the armed forces. Burson is survivied by his wife, Gaye; three sons, Stanley M. of Camp Rucker, Ala., Roger of Columbus, and Douglas of Mount Vernon; three daughters, Mrs Florence M. Milland, in Oregon, and Mrs. Norma Jean Phillips and Miss Janet Burson of Mount Vernon; four brothers, William and Edward of Sparta, Lawrence of Fredericktown, and Ralph Burson of Mount Gilead; and one sister, Mrs. Irene Bush of Edson. Friends may call after 2 p.m. Tuesday at the Grohe Funeral Home where the funeral will be Wednesday at 2:30 p.m., the Rev. E.L. Jefferson officiating. Burial will be in Rivercliff Cemetery at Mount Gilead.
