His parents are Jacob and Magdelena Kendig Brenneman. He was to be "of" Mount Joy, Lancaster Co., PA. at the time of his marriage to Margaret [Zinn].
From his death notice in a newspaper: "He came to Newport from Lancaster Co. and married a sister of G. W. Zinn. He was enlisted as 2nd Lieutenant of Co.D. 2nd Regt. PA. Volunteers and then re-enlisted for 3 years in Co.H.
47th Regt. PA.Volunteers under Capt. James Kacey and was mustered out on 24-Sep-1864 as 2nd Lieutenant.

The son of Jacob & Magdelena (Kendig) Brenneman, in 1850 he lived with his family in West Hempfield Township, Lancaster County, Pennsylvania. By 1860 or shortly thereafter, he resided in Newport, Perry County, although he is not found in that census. He stood 5' 8" tall and had light hair and blue eyes.
A Civil War veteran, he first enlisted and mustered into federal service at Harrisburg April 20, 1861, as 2nd lieutenant of Co. D, 2nd Pennsylvania Infantry, and honorably discharged with his company July 26, 1861. He then enlisted in Newport August 20, 1861, mustered into federal service at Washington DC (Harrisburg also reported) September 24 as 2nd lieutenant of Co. H, 47th Pennsylvania Infantry, and honorably discharged at term's end September 24, 1864, still a 2nd lieutenant.
He married Margaret J. Zinn and fathered Leida Addie (b. @1860), Flora (b. @1861), Jacob Kendig (b. 09/09/65), George Zinn (b. 05/12/67), Victor (b. 02/28/69), Harry (b. @1871), Margaret A. (b. 04/16/73 - married William L. Gardner), John (b. ?, d. 1878), and Benjamin C. (b. 08/01/80).
