In his youth, he participated in sports, and was a member of the Beaverhead county basketball team which won a state title. He was not enlisted in the army during WWI because of a heart condition.
Ralph was rather quiet, choosing to spend his spare time alone, not being terribly social.
In May of 1953, he and a ranch hand were headed south on Highway 91 near the Streb ranch south of Melrose, when their car turned left in front of an oncoming car. Ralph, as the passenger, was critically injured and was taken to the emergency room at St. James hospital. Ralph never regained consciousness, and he died the next day around 5am. He was 66.
Ralph Streb passed away on May 19, 1953 and is buried in Mountain View Cemetery in Dillon, Montana.
