He is mentioned in his sons obituary:

Bascom Eugene "B.E." Tillotson, Jr., 97, passed away at 7:28 p.m., Friday, April 21, 2017 at his home in Colorado Springs, Colorado.

He was born on September 26, 1919 in Spartanburg, South Carolina, the eldest son of Bascom Eugene Tillotson, Sr. and Roberta Goodson Tillotson.

He was survived, for one and a half days, by his wife of 25 years, Jean Parker Warren Tillotson, who died on Sunday, April 23, 2017. Other survivors are son Ronald S. Tillotson, step-son Tom Warren, step-daughters Carol Warren Graham and Kristi Warren Merson, his sister Doris Tillotson McClendon, twelve grandchildren and step-grandchildren, and many great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his first wife of 40 years, Lela Genevera Nordeen Tillotson, his daughter Janet Tillotson Fredericks, step-daughter Vicki Warren, and brother Myles L. Tillotson.

Col. Tillotson's military career spanned 31 years, from January 27, 1941, when his South Carolina National Guard unit was mobilized for federal service, until his retirement on February 1, 1972. During WWII he piloted the B29 bomber on 31 missions from Saipan to Tokyo. His medals and decorations included the Legion of Merit with Oak Leaf Cluster, the Distinguished Flying Cross with 3 Oak Leaf Clusters, and the Air Medal with Silver Oak Leaf Cluster. After the war he continued his Air Force career in the communications field, rising to become Deputy Commander of Communications for all of Alaska, both military and civilian. He was Deputy to the Chief of Communications for NORAD at Cheyenne Mountain in Colorado Springs before he retired from active duty.

B. E. loved the mountains of Colorado and spent many days fishing and nights camping in his trailer at Trout Haven. His grandchildren have fond memories of his patience in teaching the fine arts of hook baiting and fish cleaning.

He was a Life Member of VFW Post 4051, where he and his wife regularly enjoyed the Friday night dinner dances, and was a 40-plus year member of Trinity United Methodist Church of Colorado Springs, where he was the founder and first administrator of the endowment fund.

A joint memorial service for B. E. and his wife Jean, Will be at Trinity United Methodist Church, June 24, 2017 at 10:00 am. Memorials may be made to Trinity United Methodist Church of Colorado Springs.
