Jeremiah was the son of Amos Nichols and Charlotte van Dorsten. (It is unknown when, where, or cause of Amos' demise.)
After the 1850 census was taken in Stark county, Ohio, Jeremiah and his brother Dorsen headed west to California in the gold rush. At some point between 1862 and 1865 he married Sarah "Sallie" Ann. (Her maiden name is unknown at this time.)
Jeremiah never had any children.
