Giles Otey Holland, 92, of Salem, went to be with the Lord Tuesday, February 26, 2013. He was born July 23, 1920, and is the last of the 13 children of the late James Thomas and Ester Brown Holland. Giles was recently preceded in death on February 8, 2013, by his wife of 70 years, Letha Holland. In addition he was predeceased by daughter, Pat Early; brothers, Henry (wife Thelma), Troy (wife Mary), Clay (wife Mattie) and Harvey (wife Dorothy); sisters, Unie Barbour (husband Russell), Pearl Brooks (husband Troy), Angie Robertson (husband Gilbert), Mary Cundiff (husband Jessie), Josie Jones (husband Guy), Melva Bowles (husband Clyde), Izora Divers (husband Ralph) and Zelma Smith (husband Herbert), sister-in-law, Joyce Law, brothers-in-law Thomas Wray and Henry Altice, Neice Sandra Altice and Nephew Ricky Altice. He is survived by grandchildren Eric Early and Sonia Hayes (husband Randy); son-in-law, Frank Early; sisters-in-law, Ruby Wray and Christine Altice; brother-in-law, Edmond Law; neices and nephews, Sue Haase, Mike Wray (wife Connie), Derek Law (wife Lindsey), Rita Sue Webb (husband Mitchell), Brenda Mitchell, Reva and Earl Powell, Aubrey Smith; great-grandchilden, Max and Sarah Hayes. He was a long and faithful member of Belmont Christian Church. He owned and was retired from Atlas Motor Parts. He received an honorable discharge from the United States Army's 33rd Infantry serving in Surinam and Trinidad during World War II. He enjoyed gardening until the age of 91. The services will be held at Belmont Christian Church on Friday, March 1, 2013, at 1 p.m. with The Reverend Craig Rutherford officiating. Interment will follow at Sherwood Memorial Park.
