Joseph Hugo Lang was born in Weilbach, Nassau (now Hessen), Germany. He immigrated to the U.S. before July 1870. On September 4, 1872, he married Angeline Ems in Harrison County, Indiana. Joseph and Angeline raised their children on a 40 acre farm north of Ramsey in the southeastern corner of Blue River Township.

Parents:

Father: Peter Lang (1800-1868) Weilbach, Germany
Mother: Anna Maria Dörrhöfer (1808-1869) Weilbach, Germany

Joseph's middle name, birth date, and parents names are from the Weilbach Catholic Church book records at the archives in Limburg, Germany. DNA matches of descendants of Joseph and a brother have confirmed his parents and the Weilbach birthplace.

NOTE: Church records indicate that Joseph Lang is buried in this cemetery but extensive searches have not located his tombstone. On June 20, 2015, I visited with a grandson of Joseph Lang who had visited Joseph's grave site in the late 1960' or early 1970's. He had taken his uncle, Joseph's son Andrew Lang, who knew where the grave was located. At that time there was no monument but only a stone marking the grave. The grandson could not remember where the grave was located but thought it was in the upper part of the cemetery.
