Emaline Hill (1863-1910)
John W. served in the Civil War from 4/5/1862 until 6/15/1863 in Co. E, 67th Regiment, PVI. He is listed as having deserted on May 6, 1864 while on leave. However, he had enlisted in the US Navy as John Carbaugh while on leave. Carbaugh was his mother's maiden name (his father, Reuben Walker Mervine, had divorced his mother). He eventually got it all straightened out and was given an honorable discharge.
