Shirley Marie Brown
Services were held Wednesday, October 28 at St. Malachy Catholic Church, for Shirley Brown, 77, who passed away in Bakersfield on October 24. Interment followed at the Tehachapi Public Cemetery-Westside.
Shirley was born on Oct. 18, 1921 in San Francisco. She was a long time resident of both Tehachapi and Bakersfield. She originally moved to Tehachapi in 1952 and worked for many years at Tehachapi Hospital. She moved to Bakersfield in 1963 where she worked for Sage Department Store until retirement in 1978. She returned to Tehachapi in 1986 until the death of her husband in 1990, and then returned to Bakersfield.
She was preceded in death by husbands Avis Finch in 1949 and Charles "Jack" Brown in 1990, and grandson Bradley Finch in 1983.
She is survived by daughter and son-in-law Cheri and Thurman VanDeMark of June Lake, son and daughter-in-law Tom and Lynda Finch of Bakersfield, daughter, Charlotte Coggins of Bakersfield, grandchildren Pam and Pat Stack of Tehachapi, Jeff and Joan Finch of Bakersfield, Mike Finch of Bakersfield and Lance Alverson of Thousand Oaks, great-grandchildren, Megan and Ryan Stack, Justin, Jordan and Juliann Finch; brothers, Roger Armitage of Fresno and Matt Armitage of Jensen Beach, Florida; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Shirley was a very special lady and will be greatly missed by her family and friends. Wood Family Funeral Service handled the arrangements
