The LaFayette Sun" - September 2, 1931:

Uncle Bowden Brown Dies at Mount Olive.

Another old soldier of the South passed away at 5:00 o'clock Sunday morning, August 30th, when Uncle Bowden Brown, of Mount Olive community, Beat 2, went to his reward just as the day was breaking anew. He was 84 years 10 months and 23 days old.

The funeral services were held Monday morning at 11 o'clock from the church he loved so well, Antioch Christian Church at Double Head, where he had been a faithful member for 57 years. Rev. G. D. Hunt was the officiating minister, assisted by Revs. Sheppard, Layton and Martin. Here at the altar the casket rested among the many beautiful flowers while a quartette rendered the sweet songs he loved and comforting words were spoken by the minister.

Uncle Bowden was almost a life-long resident of this community and was loved and respected for his high type of character and his noble Christian life. His first wife, Mrs. Sally Kitchens Brown, died January 20, 1900. To them were born six girls and two boys, with one son and five daughters surviving.

Surviving are his second wife, Mrs. Nannie Brown; one son, J. D. Brown; five daughters, Mrs. Ollie Abbot, of LaGrange; Mrs. Lewis Chappell, Penton; Mrs. Warren Hood, Double Head; Mrs. Will Thompson, Fairfax, and Mrs. Anderson Cadenhead, LaGrange; two sisters, Mrs. Young Dunn, Mount Olive, and Mrs. Joe Hollis, Manchester, Ga.; two brothers, Bob and Jim Brown, of Roanoke, and a number of grandchildren and great grandchildren. Pall bearers were grandsons, Otis Abbott, Klein Hood, Harold Cadenhead, Carlton Chappell, James Floyd and Ridley Brown. Interment was in the adjoining cemetery.
