Winifred A. Rountree Ellis, 96, a lifelong resident of Portsmouth, VA, passed away Friday, August 27, 2010. Winnie was born on July 4, 1914. She was predeceased by her husband, Edwin Ellis; by her loving companion, Irving Waldbauer; and by the pride of her life, her only child, Perry Ellis. She was also predeceased by her parents, Walter and Lyda Rountree; brother, Derwood Rountree; and sister, Reba Hearst. She is survived by her granddaughter, Tyler Ellis of New York, NY; Tyler's mother, Barbara Gallagher of Los Angles, CA; and her cousin, Dr. Betty Yarborough of Portsmouth, VA. A graveside service will be held on Monday, August 30, 2010, at 2:00 p.m. in Evergreen Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to your Portsmouth Humane Society. The family would like to express their appreciation to her caregivers who lovingly took care of her as her health declined. Snellings Funeral Home, Churchland Chapel is handling arrangements.
