GOODALL, Joseph Peyton, a longtime resident of Chesterfield County, passed away February 12, 2010 after a short illness. He was born June 15, 1914 in Madison, Virginia to Joseph Philander and Lillian Bowman Goodall. He grew up on the Goodall farm in Locust Dale, Madison County. In 1932 he moved to Chesterfield County to join his brother Sydney in Goodall Brothers Oil Co. He joined Ettrick Methodist Church in 1933 and served on the church's board as a teacher of the Jackson Smart Bible Class for many years. He joined the U.S. Army in 1943 and was involved in major campaigns in the European Theatre-Rhineland and Central Europe. Mr. Goodall was a respected businessman, operating the Goodall Oil Company for 21 years and was co-owner of Magee's Chester Pharmacy. He remained active in the local business community, serving on numerous boards and as Chief Judge of the Ettrick Precinct for 31 years and also the electoral board of Chesterfield County.

Surviving are his wife of 68 years, Marjorie Mann Goodall; two daughters, Lynne Goodall and Kathryn Squires (Malcolm) of Fairfax; three grand-children, Wesley Montrief (Scott) of Fredericksburg, Malcolm Hart Squires III of Atlanta, and Harris Goodall Squires of Fairfax and South Korea; and three great-grandchildren, Isaac, Leigha, and Garrett Montrief. He is also survived by two brothers, Culton Goodall of Madison and George Goodall of Petersburg. He was pre- deceased by brothers, Sydney, Banks, Medford; and sisters, Katherine, Anna, Mary Douglas, and Frances, and by his grandson, Whitney Peyton Wilkerson. The family wishes to express deep gratitude to the staff at Colonial Heights Health Care and his private-duty sitters for their patient and loving care. A funeral service will be held 2 p.m. Sunday, February 14, 2010 at the Colonial Heights Chapel of the E. Alvin Small Funeral Homes & Crematory, 2033 Boulevard with the Reverend Gus Wright and the Reverend James Blankenship, immediately followed by a visitation at the Dunlop House, 235 Dunlop Farms Boulevard, Colonial Heights. Burial will be held 10 a.m. Monday, February 15, 2010 at Blandford Cemetery, Petersburg. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions be made to Ettrick United Methodist Church Memorial Fund, 21302 Chesterfield Avenue, Ettrick, Virginia 23803 or Mount Zion United Methodist Church, 6565 Oak Park Road, Oak Park, Virginia 22730
