Mary was educated in the public schools of Sandersville and in a private school operated by Miss Mariah Haynes in her home. She furthered her education at Sidwell's Friends School in Washington, D.C. and the Lucy Cobb Institute in Athens, Georgia.

Mary Hardwick and her husband Frederick Rawlings were married 27 Dec 1919 at All Saints Episcopal Church in Atlanta. They had no children.

Mrs. Mary Hardwick Rawlings, age 98, of 313 South Smith Street, Sandersville, died Monday evening at her residence.
Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, July 24, 1996 in the Grace Episcopal Church. Burial was in the Sandersville Old City Cemetery. Rector Dawson Teague officiated.
Pallbearers were Tom Bold, Joe Rawlings, William Rawlings, Jr.,George Sheftall, John Dana, Ped Lacy and Osgood Bateman.
Mrs. Rawlings was a native of Washington County, the daughter of the late Thomas William Hardwick, U.S. Representative, U.S. Senator and Governor of the State of Georgia and the late Mrs. Maude Elizabeth Perkins Hardwick. She was the widow of Dr. Frederick Bangs Rawlings. Mrs. Rawlings was a member of the Grace Episcopal Church, the American University of Women, the 20th Century Club, the Sandersville Music Club, the Washington County Community Concert Association, an honorary member of the Delta Kappa Gamma Sorority, founder of the Hardwick Chapter of the Daughters of American Colonists, and a charter member of the Sandersville Sorosis Club. Mrs. Rawlings was a homemaker.
Survivors include her brother-in-law and guardian, Dr. William Rawlings, Sr. of Sandersville; cousins, Mrs. Elizabeth Perkins Thornton, Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, Mrs. Helen Perkins Adair, North Carolina, Mrs. Faye Bold Hughes, Charleston, South Carolina, and Mr. Thomas P. Bold of Fairfax, Virginia; several nieces and nephews.
Lang's Chapel of Sandersville was in charge of the arrangements.
