Lucile "Lutie" Schaf Appel, 90, Indianapolis, passed away February 23, 2013. She was born January 1, 1923, in Indianapolis, the daughter of the late Joseph Charles and Lucile (Greene) Schaf. She was married to Alan Carey Appel on August 2, 1943, and he preceded her in passing on December 12, 1983.

Lutie was a member of the Colonial Dames, Dramatic Club of Indianapolis, Woodstock Country Club, Leland Country Club, Leland Yacht Club, St. Paul's Episcopal Church, and she was a charter member of Meals on Wheels. She was an avid tennis player and enjoyed spending her summers with her family in Leland, Michigan.

She is survived by her children, Lucyanne Appel, Sally Schaf Appel, Alan Carey (Mary Beth) Appel, Daniel Charles (Katherine) Appel; grandchildren, Charles (Susan) Carlock, Carey (Jack Henry) Carlock, Andrew (Susan) Appel, Mary Appel, Leslie Appel; and seven great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her sister, Martha Ann Appel.

She will be greatly missed by her loving family. She lived a long and blessed life. The family wants to thank her kind and dedicated caregivers, Paula Britt and the staff at Hooverwood. They will remember her for her cheerfulness and bright smile.

A Celebration of Life will be from 4:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m. Friday, March 1, 2013, at Woodstock Country Club, 1301 West 38th Street. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be directed to the Orchard School, 615 West 64th Street, Indianapolis, IN 46260 or to the Fishtown Preservation Society, P.O. Box 721, Leland, MI 49654.
