John Summers' first wife Jemima Isbell died about 1842. Her sister Elizabeth Isbell had married his brother Matthew Summers. Their brothers James Isbell and Levi Isbell married sisters Elizabeth Birdwell and Sarah Birdwell, fourth cousins of Sam Houston.
The four Isbells' uncle Levi Isbell married Sarah Jane Todd, possibly related to the Summers also.
