Per several Sons of American Revolution applications, Samuel was not a Captain, but a Private who did 10 tours (months) of service in New York and New Jersey battles. The Shoemaker book talks about him being a Captain, but that was years later when he had moved to Pennsylvania. Perhaps, like his son Lot, the Captain title was associated with the Luzerne County Militia.
