FOREST L. MAURER
Forest Lorrain Maurer, 92, of Clearfield and formerly of Worthville died Friday, Dec. 11, 2009, at Knickerbacker Villa, Clearfield.

Born May 21, 1917, at Worthville, he was a son of John Henry Maurer and Beulah Dobson Maurer.

He was a World War II U.S. Army veteran, stationed in Iran.

Mr. Maurer retired in 1977 as a school teacher, and was the junior high principal of the Punxsutawney School District.

He was a member of Brookville Presbyterian Church, where he was active in Church affairs.

He graduated from Clarion University, and received a master's degree from The Pennsylvania State University.

Mr. Maurer was a lifetime member of the Veterans of Foreighn Wars Post No. 2076, Punxsutawney, where he was a past commander from 1975 to 1976.

He retired from the U.S. Army Reserve in Punxsutawney 1977 as a major.

He was a member of the Jaffa Shrine in Altoona, Jefferson County Shrine Club, and John Jenks Lodge Free and Accepted Masons of Punxsutawney.

He volunterred at the Brookville and Punxsutawney hospitals, received the Retired and Senior Volunteer Program Award for Jefferson County in 2008; was the mayor of Worthville from 1953 to 2009; and was caretaker of the Worthville Cemetery.

He is survived by two sons, Dean L. Maurer and his wife Elsie, of Clearfield , and Henry L. Maurer and his wife, Deborah, of East Brady; four grandchildren, Mindy, Justin, Eric and Keisha; a sister, Althea Myers of Minnesota; and a brother-in-law, Henry Cowan and his wife, Carolyn, of DuBois.

Mr. Maurer was preceded in death by his parents and his wife, the former Alta L. Cowan, who died April 27, 1996.

Services will be held Monday, Dec. 28, at 1 p.m. at McKinney Funeral Home, Brookville, with the Rev. Thomas J. Parlette officiating. Interment will be at Worthville Cemetery, Ringgold Township, Jefferson County.

Friends will be received Monday, Dec 28, from noon until the hour of services.

The family suggests memorial contributions be made to Brookville Presbyterian Church, Main Street, Brookville, PA 15825; Worthville Cemetery Association, Clearfield Hospital Hospice, or donor's choice.
