Robert A. "Bob" Ballentine, 85, of Little Mountain, died February 22, 2013 at the Newberry County Memorial Hospital.

Funeral services will be conducted at 11:00 A.M. on Tuesday, February 25, 2013 at Mt. Tabor Lutheran Church by the Rev. John Stoudemayer. Interment will follow in the church cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 5:30 to 8:00 P.M. Monday at the Whitaker Funeral Home in Newberry and again at the church on Tuesday following the committal service.

He was born on December 7, 1927 in Lexington, a son of the late John William and Bertha Mae Shealy Ballentine. His elementary and high school education was in the Batesburg and Little Mountain schools. He also attended the University of South Carolina.

Bob was first married to the former Martha Marieta (Rita) Shealy who died in 1989.

Following a 38 year career with the Columbia Post Office, he retired in 1983 as the Sectional Center Manager, Mail Processing. He also had 30 years of service with the SC Army National Guard, retiring with the rank of Lt. Col.

He was an active member of Mt. Tabor Lutheran church. He was also active in volunteer work in the community being a member of the Little Mountain Ruritan Club and the Chapin Sunrise Rotary Club where he was a charter member and a nine time Paul Harris Fellow.

He is survived by his wife, Marcia M. Loadholdt Ballentine whom he married in 1991; a daughter, Donna B. Bradt (Jeff) of Simpsonville; sons, Mike Ballentine (Stephanie) of Nashua, NH and Bruce Ballentine (Ashley) of Little Mountain; step-children, Paul Loadholdt (Donna) of Spartanburg, Jan Sharpe (Robert) of Lexington and Rev. Gary Loadholdt (Nan) of Irmo; 14 grandchildren and a great grandchild.

His brothers, Fred and Wendel Ballentine predeceased him. He was also predeceased by Petunia, his beloved 1963 VW Beetle.

Pallbearers will be his grandsons, Stephen Loadholdt, David Loadholdt, Daniel Sharpe, Parris Ballentine, Chris Bradt, Jeremy Loadholdt, Daniel Howard, and Blake Ballentine.
