Judge John M. Forbes, 76, retired justice of the peace for Precinct 2, Tarrant County, passed away Wednesday, Feb. 20, 2013. Funeral: 1 p.m. Monday at First United Methodist Church of Arlington. Interment: With Masonic graveside services in Moore Memorial Gardens. Visitation: 5 to 7 p.m. Sunday in Arlington Funeral Home Chapel.
He was born in Royse City, and had been a resident of Arlington since 1949. He graduated from Arlington High School in 1954, and later Arlington State College and then UTA when it became a four-year university. He was past president of The Justices Of The Peace and Constables Association of Texas and he served for many years as an instructor in the Justice Court training program. He was member of The Arlington Arts League, The Arlington Historical Society, and Kimbell Art Museum. He was also a member and past director of Friends of U.T.A. Libraries, a past director of Theatre Arlington and a past Arlington Chamber of Commerce Ambassador. He was a past 30-year director of Arlington Christmas Samaritans and a past director of The Arlington Boys Club. He was a past Master of Arlington Masonic Lodge #438, a 33rd Degree Scottish Rite Mason, and a Shriner. He also belonged to several Appendant Masonic organizations. He was an active member of the First United Methodist Church where he served as president of the Adult Bible Class. He enjoyed visiting the sick and his goal on each visit was to make them smile. He loved his dear friends, his wife, Lannie, and he enjoyed traveling with her many places around the world. His children and his many grandkids were a great joy to him. He enjoyed being with them and attending their many school and church functions. Survivors: Wife, Lannie Forbes; daughters, Melody Mitchell and husband, Gary, Marsha Mellott and husband, Mike, and Monica Herndon and husband, Mark; sons, Paul and Mark Barger; grandchildren, Heather, Trent, Nicole Mitchell, Jackie Meyer and husband, Aaron, Jeff Douthit and wife, Dana, John Herndon and wife, Grace, Jennifer and Amber Herndon; and great-grandchildren, Blakely and Brynlee Meyer and Roxanne Douthit.
