Elizabeth Ellen Climer is possibly a d/o Reuben & Elizabeth (Heath) Climer/Clymer. She m. 1st on 9 Dec 1853 in Coles Co, IL to Nathaniel Parker by whom she had 5 children: George W. Parker, Phoebe Alice (Parker) Stites, Mary Elizabeth "Lib" (Parker) Moore Weedin, Emmojean Jeanette (Parker) Branson Venn, and Ephraim Parker (died young). Nathaniel died 20 Apr 1871 and is buried in Coles Co, IL. Ellen then married on 18 Dec 1877 in Coles Co, IL to Peter Kaw b. ca 1824. He died and she m. 3rd on 30 Mar 1887 to Richard Stites. She had no known children with the last two husbands. However, the 1900 census says she had 6 children with only 3 living at that time. In the Parker Cemetery, Coles Co, IL, there is a marker which says Infant son of Ellen Parker d. 29 Jul 1879, 1 yr 5 da. If this is her child, he may have been born out of wedlock.

Mrs. Ellen Stites died January 25, 1919 at the home of her son James Stites southwest of Effingham presumably from influenza. She had only been ill about two days and the morning of her death sat up and ate her breakfast. Mrs. Stites was 87 years, 1 month and 13 days, of age. She was born in North Carolina. Mrs. Stites came to Effingham a year ago with her son when he and his wife came to take charge of the Geo. Bishop home after the death of their daughter Mrs. Bishop. Funeral services were held at the home and interment was made in the Effingham Evergreen cemetery.

Note: Ellen was NOT the mother of James Stites. She was actually his mother-in-law. Ellen's last husband, Richard Stites, was an older step-brother of James Stites.
