O. L. "Ozia" Underwood, 87-year-old Ola resident who had been missing since last Friday evening, was found dead at 10:45 a.m. Sunday by a group of searchers.
Around 150 persons had been searching for the elderly man after he failed to return from a trapping jaunt in the bottomland of the wildlife management area near Ola. His family reported him missing at 6 p.m. Friday.
The Yell County Mounted Patrol under the leadership of Franklin Wesley, Dardanelle, began the seach that evening. After an unsuccessful five hours, the search was called off at 1 a.m. until daylight Saturday.
Resuming the search Saturday morning., the patrol was augmented by Dardanelle and Danville National Guard units, volunteers from the Dardanelle Rural Fire Department and Ola citizens. Sheriff Denver Dennis and Chief Deputy Loyd Maughn organized the search parties.
Failing to find any trace of Underwood Saturday, the searchers started out again at 6:30 a.m. Sunday, widening their search. He was found by Ola hunters Herman Johnson, Glen Nokes, Jim Treadwell, Paul Brothers, Buddy Emery and Bobby Nokes.
Underwood, who had been trapping on the creek that runs through Ola, had traveled farther than expected of a man his age, Maughn said. He had gone up an old slough and was about 50 feet beyond it.
Dr. J. O. Pennington, who examined the body, said Underwood had been dead more than eight hours and died of natural causes, probably a heart attack.
Maughn said the search had been made more difficult by the fog and rain and by the terrain, which is marshy, heavily wooded bottom land.

Survivors are a son, Leroy Underwood of Manteca, CA; two daughters, Miss Verlon Underwood of Ola and Mrs. Oler Johnson of Lathrop, CA; two brothers, Lonnie Underwood of Centerville and Arthur Underwood of Pasadena, TX; two sisters, Mrs. Oma Abney and Mrs. Ethel Garner, both of Dardanelle, six grandchildren and nine great grandchildren.
Funeral was at 2 p.m. Tuesday at the Ola Church of Christ. Burial was at New Hope Cemetery.
