Leon Parks, 89, of Memphis died Thursday, Feb. 21, 2013, in Amarillo.

Memorial services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday in First Baptist Church in Memphis with the Rev. Daniel Downey officiating. Burial will follow in Dodson Cemetery. Arrangements are by Hughs Funeral Home of Memphis.

Mr. Parks was born on Feb. 13, 1924, in Chalk to Floyd L. and Kate Ann Galloway Parks. He served in the Marines during World War II. He married Margaret Wynn Gilbert on Sept. 9, 1987, in Roaring Springs. He was an active member of the Masons and a member of First Baptist Church in Memphis.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, M.B. Parks.

Survivors include his wife, Margaret Parks of Memphis; his children, Vic Parks and wife Wanda of Burbank, Wash., Melissa Patrick and husband Chris of Dallas, Paulette Evans of Keller, Billy Gilbert and wife Patty of Wellington, Becky Jackson and husband Jimmy of Claude, Debbie Wood and husband Carl of Cloudcroft, N.M., Mark Gilbert and wife Laurey of Pampa and Meleney Martin and husband Kenny of Groom; a sister, Lenora Wood of Plainview; 21 grandchildren; and 39 great-grandchildren.

The family suggests memorials be to First Baptist Church, 121 S. Eighth St., Memphis, TX 79245.
