An angel returned to heaven when Patricia Alida Louise Gratton passed with her four children by her side at 12:01 a.m. Monday morning, Feb. 18.

She had battled bone cancer for the past seven months. "Patty" grew up in Moscow, Idaho, and attended high school in Spokane. She obtained a RN degree from Great Falls' Columbus Hospital in 1958 and began her nursing career that spanned over 45 years. Over 50 years later, she still heard from classmates and they laughed and chatted as though not a day had passed.

Pat married Mirl Gratton of Fairfield, Mont., in 1957, and the two of them raised four children, Kathie Sammons (Steve), Scott Gratton (Kathy), Becky West (Jim) and Cheri Camis, first in Power, Mont., then Seeley Lake and ultimately, Missoula. In 1991, she returned to Moscow to take care of her ill father, Arthur Crossler.

The true reflection of Pat showed in her friendship with so many people who she touched with her life. She taught many children to play the piano and loved playing the organ in church while attending the Methodist, Lutheran and even Catholic churches. She requested no religious services, having come to peace with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. Salvation is hers.

She was predeceased by her father, Art; mother, Helen Speer; and brothers Michael Speer and Jim Crossler; along with her grandson, Tanner Olson.

Special thanks to Barbara Crossler, Jim's wife, who cared for Mom as a sister-in-law and confidant.

She is survived by her sister, Mary Edwards; and many grandchildren, Cheri's children, Marilyn, Dana, Jack and Nik and stepchildren Tara and Dominic; Becky's beautiful girls, Delaney and Tori; Scott's sons Zach and Sam, and stepchildren Allie, Karly and Konner; and Kathie's children Maren, Stevie Leigh, Shea and Brianna.

Pat had beautiful blue eyes that sparkled when she met a new person. She was vivacious, caring and loving to all she came in contact with. Her patients were treated even more special, thousands of them, and now, she is an angel with many of them in heaven.

A celebration of life will be had to honor Patty this summer in Moscow, Idaho.

Memorials can be made to Meadowlark Home for Cancer Patients, St. Vincent's Healthcare Foundation, 1106 30th St., Billings, MT 59101.
