Elmer Harris, 90, of Lee's Summit, Missouri, passed away at the home on February 16, 2013 at his home.

He was born October 1, 1922 in Denver Colorado to the union of Alfred Luther and Margaret Melon Harris. He was the second of four children.

He was preceded in death by his sister Helen Harris, mother Margaret Harris, brother Raymond Harris, daughter Elgia Harris-Allen, father Alfred Luther Harris, daughter Deffanie Harris-Morgan and sister Lorraine Bowie.

Elmer graduated from Lincoln High School in 1939. The same year, he married Georgia Ruby Robinson and had four children. On October 20, 1949, he married Georgia Mae Rabun and through this union had five children. On December 22, 1979, he married Peggy Ann Jaco and they were married thirty-three years until his passing.

Elmer worked for the Social Security Administration, Department of Health and Human Services Division for thirty six years. He retired as Section Chief, managing Section 1 of the Mid-America Program Payment Center in Region 7, in 1987. Elmer was proud of his accomplishments, working his way up from an entry level typist to a highly respected management position. His contributions to the Social Security Administration were many, leaving a legacy through his hard work and dedication. Elmer's most notable accomplishment was the creation of the "Elmer Report". This report was created to control the workflow in his section, to ensure the needs of beneficiaries were met in an
efficient manner. Additionally, the Elmer Report was adapted by the Social Security Administration for national use and continues to be used today. During his career, Elmer received numerous awards and certificates of appreciation. He was proud of to receive two Commissioner Citations for his exemplary work and outstanding contributions from the Commissioner of the Social Security Administration. With all the accomplishments Elmer earned, he also held a second job for twenty years as the manager for The Standard Club.

Elmer was a member of Bethel AME Church for over twenty five years, actively serving until his health restricted his participation. He served on the Trustee Board, was a member of the Men of Bethel, and was devoted to his Sunday school class--Class 20. Elmer also served as a founding member of the Vine Street Manor Board of Trustees. He was involved in all stages of Bethel's senior citizen housing unit from planning to completion. Elmer worked tirelessly for the church to maintain the buildings and grounds, and assisting on the finance team for many years. The accolades and certificates of appreciation that he received from the church are too numerous to count, but he was extremely proud to have been honored as the "Favorite Son" of Bethel, during the 100 year celebration of the Bethel AME Church in 2012. Elmer truly enjoyed working in the church and serving others. He voluntarily gave of himself, his time and his talents.

Additionally, Elmer was an avid reader and loved to play cards and dominos. He was passionate about family togetherness, planning family events and spending time with his children and grandchildren. Elmer taught us to always love and support one another and modeled this for everyone he came in contact with. Notably, his Elmerism's have a place in all of our hearts.

On February 16, 2013, Elmer entered eternal rest. He is survived by his wife Peggy Harris, three sons, Elbert Harris (Doris), Elmer A. Harris, (Beulah) and Alfred Harris; three daughters, Kathi Patterson (Robert), Georgetta May (Michael) and Sonia Kelsaw (Keith); stepdaughter, Linda Coleman; twenty seven grandchildren, thirty eight great grandchildren, several cousins, nieces, nephews and a host of loving friends. Elmer touched the lives of many people and will truly be missed.
