Melvin Dowell, 65, of Shelbyville, died Saturday, Jan. 12, 2013, at Indiana University Hospital in Indianapolis. He previously lived in Crawfordsville and Morristown.

He was born Aug. 21, 1947, to Craig Dowell and Sarah (Barnard) Dowell in Salem. He married Janice (Walls) Dowell on Oct. 30, 1965, and she preceded him in death on Aug. 28, 1996. He also married Jean (Sparrow) Dowell in September 1997, and she preceded him in death in September 2011.

Survivors include: daughters, Kim Cregar, of Indianapolis, Terri Dowell, of Indianapolis, and Michelle (Dennis) Moffett, of Greensburg; sisters, Minnie Watts, of Crawfordsville, and Lyewellyn Emberton, of Danville; six grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by father, Craig Dowell; mother, Sarah (Barnard) Dowell; and brothers, Vernon Dowell and Marvin Dowell.

He was employed as a tool and die engineer at Detroit Steel in Morristown. Mr. Dowell was a member of the Morristown American Legion.

Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 15, 2013, at Glenn E. George and Son Funeral Home, 437 Amos Road, Shelbyville.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 16, 2013, at the funeral home with the Rev. Cliff Bunch officiating. Burial will be at Asbury Cemetery in Morristown.
