Robert Richard "Bob" Baird

July 25, 1924 ~ February 16, 2013

Robert Richard "Bob" Baird, who was born on July 25, 1924, passed away on February 16, 2013, in Wenatchee, WA, at the age of 88. Bob was the fifth child born to Jay O. and Iva Baird. Bob and his family moved from his birthplace in Kansas to Blue Eye, MO during the Dust Bowl years of the Great Depression. After graduating Valedictorian of his high school class, Bob ventured to the available orchard work in the greater Wenatchee area. Shortly thereafter, the call to service of WWII drew him away. After an honorable discharge from the Army, dad returned to Central Washington and married Jacqueline "Jackie" McGinnis. Together, they moved to Cashmere and partnered up with two of Bob's brothers to form and start Baird Brother's Orchards in Cashmere. He and his brothers, Jay and Dick, built homes, planted trees and started families. All three have lived at the home place until the present.

Preceding dad's death were his wife, Jackie; one son, William Lee; his parents; sisters, Ruth and Lucille; and his brothers, Jay O. Jr., all of the home place, and Hale. Surviving are his sisters, Mary and Faith; brother, Dick of the home place; Bob's sons, Michael A. and Robert P. and his wife, Dana; along with many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

Bob was steady as a rock, honest as life itself, a valuable sage of advice and a man who would pitch in tirelessly until the work was accomplished. He will be missed deeply by all who knew him well.

The immediate family would like to thank all of the emergency response team, Central Washington Hospital staff, nurses and doctors for all of their expertise, compassion and understanding.

A Graveside Service will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Wednesday, February 27, 2013, at Cashmere Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Wounded Warrior Fund. Arrangements are by Telford's Chapel of the Valley, East Wenatchee.
