From "The Ithaca Daily Journal", Thursday, February 3, 1910:
Fred E. Durling, aged 75 years, died at 1 o'clock this morning at his residence, 216 West Railroad Avenue. He was a veteran of the Civil War, serving with K Company, 137th Regiment. He is survived by one brother of this city and ten children, Mrs. Alice Loomis, Mrs. Flora South, Mrs. Ada Updike, Andrew, Eugene, Charles and George, all of Ithaca; Mrs. Sadie York and Mrs. Mary Spencer of Kansas, and Walter Durling of Medina. The funeral will be in charge of the G.A.R., of which the deceased was a member, and will be held Sunday afternoon at 2 o'clock, Rev. S. S. Vose officiating.
