SOUTH GLENS FALLS — Isaac Alkes, 94, of South Glens Falls, passed away Sunday, Feb. 3, 2013, at Glens Falls Hospital.

Born March 2, 1918, in Glens Falls, the son of the late Morris and Ida (Suckman) Alkes.

Isaac was a veteran of the U.S. Army, and was in active duty during World War II.

He was a member of Congregation Shaaray Tefila and Chevra Kadish for 70 years. Isaac was a former member of the BPOE Lodge 81. Isaac and his father owned Morris Alkes and Son in Glens Falls for 50 years. He owned, trained and drove harness horses at Saratoga Raceway. Isaac was an avid fisherman, and enjoyed gardening but, most of all, he loved his family.

Besides his parents, Isaac was predeceased by his first wife, Eva Alkes; brother, Nathan Alkes; and son-in-law, Daniel Beale.

Survivors include his wife, Ursula Alkes of South Glens Falls; daughters, Irene Alkes of Deerfield Beach, Fla.; Diane Beale of Queensbury; grandson, Dr. Mark Beale and his wife, Wendy, of Liverpool, N.Y.; great-grandsons, Ben and Gavin Beale of Liverpool, N.Y.; Nick and Alexis Martusevick of Liverpool, N.Y.; nephew, Dr. Ivan Alkes of Grand Junction, Colo.; great-niece, Dr. Gina Alkes; stepdaughter, Eileen Schmitt of California; and stepson, Lou Schmitt and his wife, Susan, and family of Arkansas.

A service will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Feb. 5, 2013, at Regan Denny Stafford Funeral Home, 53 Quaker Road, Queensbury.

Burial will follow at Congregation Shaaray Tefila Cemetery, Media Drive, Queensbury.

In lieu of flowers, donations in Isaac's name may be made to Congregation Shaaray Tefila, 68 Bay St., Glens Falls, NY 12801 or a charity of one's choice.
