He married Cynthia Elizabeth Mathes, Nov. 2nd, 1856 and to this union 7 daughters were born, Virginia, Julia, Alice Mary, Lucy Ellen, Elizabeth Jane "Jennie", Clarissa "Clara" and Emma. They moved to KY.
After Cynthia died he married, Anna Catherine Buehler about 1875. Six children were born to them in Kentucky, Joseph Clark, John H., Rudolph, Samuel, Elizabeth and Gladys Peden.
The family later moved to Arkansas. John died sometime before 1925 as his wife's death certificate, says she is a widow.
