Never married, Deviney remained in Tallahassee until 1961. She returned to Julian, N.C., where she died in 1964 at the age of 68.
Deviney Hall was opened as Florida Hall in 1952, five years after FSCW became FSU in 1947. The seven-story building off Jefferson Street originally housed men before becoming a longtime women's residence hall. It was renamed Deviney Hall in 1965, following Deviney's death.
