Lavinia Martin Overstreet's obituary in the 13 Nov 1908 Tifton Gazette:

(Note: the article gets the birthplace wrong. She was born in Barnwell Dist., SC.)

"Mrs. Lavinia E. Overstreet, wife of Rev. E.W. Overstreet, of Nashville, was born April 17th, 1843, and died, November 2nd, 1908, having reached the age of sixty-five years, six months and sixteen days.

She was born and reared near Valdosta, in Lowndes County, by her grandfather, Capt. Stephen Martin.

She was married to Rev. E.W. Overstreet in 1867, and by this union, she became the mother of nine children: Messrs. Henry L., Arthur W. and Charlie E. Overstreet, and Mrs. Ella J. Horne, Mrs. Jennie Jefferson, Mrs. Georgia L. Warren, and Misses Minnie L., Laura O. and Annie Lithia Overstreet, all of this county, except Arthur, who resides in Lake Butler, Fla., and little Annie Lithia, who preceded her mother to the grave many years ago."

Bro. B.M. Pack's View of Nashville

B.M Pack, traveling agent for the Christian Index, was very favorably impressed with Nashville upon the occasion of his recent visit, judging from the kind words printed in his paper of two weeks ago. He says: "At Nashville, I found the brethren rejoicing over the privilege of having a resident pastor. Rev. A.L. Blizard, formerly of Fitzgerald, is their pastor, and had just arrived with his family the day I got there.

He is a good preacher, and worthy of the confidence and cooperation of the brethren. If they will hold up their hands, they may expect many great things from the Lord. This is one of the most promising Baptist fields in South Georgia. It is the county seat of Berrien County, and is nearly one thousand in population. It has a magnificent courthouse and jail, and a good school. It already has two railroads and is expecting a third one at an early date. It is surrounded by a fine agricultural belt, and is destined to become a commercial centre of no mean proportions.

Rev. E.W. Overstreet lives in the place, and kindly accompanied me in seeing the brethren. After supper, and by special invitation, I spent a couple of hours very pleasantly in the home of brother and sister W.H. Tygart. Several of the young people who sing in the choir were gathered there for the purpose of practicing the songs for the following Sunday."

Nashville Herald, 6 Nov 1908:

Death of Mrs. E. W. Overstreet

Mrs. Lavinia E. Overstreet, wife and consort of Rev. E. W. Overstreet, of Nashville, Ga., was born April 17th, 1843 in Barnwell District, South Carolina, and died November 2nd, 1908, having reached the age of sixty-five years, six months and sixteen days, when the Lord said, "It is enough, come up higher."

So she has passed from us to glory. She was born in South Carolina but reared near Valdosta, in Lowndes county, by her Grandfather, Capt. Stephen Martin. She was married to Rev. E. W. Overstreet in 1867, and by this union she became the mother of nine children, their names as follows: Messrs. Henry L., Arthur W. and Charlie E. Overstreet, and Mrs. Ella J. Home, Mrs. Jennie Jefferson, Mrs. Georgia L. Warren, and Misses Minnie L., Laura O. and Annie Lithia Overstreet, all of this county, except Arthur, who resides in Lake Butler, Florida, and little Annie Lithia who preceded her mother to the grave many years ago.

Mrs. Overstreet was a kind and affectionate companion, a tender and loving mother, and kind and loving friend, always striving to do the right. She lived a consistent member of the Baptist church nearly forty years, having been a Christian from early life in the Methodist church.
All that skilled medical aid, kind friends and loved ones could do to alleviate her suffering was done, but an All-Wise Providence called her spirit home.

"Weep not for her, loved ones,
For God has called her home
To minister with the Angels
Around His Holy Throne.
Revere the hand that striketh,
Tho, to us it seemeth amiss,
Turn your weeping to rejoicing,
That she is in endless bliss.
Free from sin and sorrow
And the world's most angry storm,
With open arms she'll welcome you
In the Great Resurrection Morn. "
