Services for Mary Josephine McWhirter, 77, 1104 South Dwight, were held Tuesday at First United Methodist Church with the Rev. David Owen officiating. Burial was in Monahans Cemetery.

Mrs. McWhirter was preceded in death by her husband Mark in 1958. He had served as an officer at the First State Bank for many years after the family moved to Monahans in 1938 from McCamey.

Mrs. McWhirter was active in women's clubs activities and also helped promote the Ward County Library children's story hour which is still active today.

Survivors are a daughter, Jo Ann Gatchell of Dallas; one brother, Walter Coffman of Goree; two sister, Lois Moore of Goree and Neva Kennedy of Lubbock; three grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
