Alice P. Dreher of Hicksville, NY died February 8, 2013 after battling pancreatic cancer for the past several months. She was 92 years of age.
Alice was married to George Dreher who died in 1986. She was previously married to Robert L. Mains who heroically died during World War II.
Her three children, daughter Barbara and husband Jim of Stony Brook, NY and two sons, George and his wife Barbara of West Hempstead NY and Roger and his wife Joanne, of Yardley, PA, survive Alice. She was blessed with eight grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. Grandchildren are Mark, Erin and Matt Giannelli, Ian, Kate and Matt Dreher, and Kelly and Kara Dreher, and great-grandchildren, Emily Short, Liam, Avery, Kyra Giannelli and Paige Ross.
Alice was born and educated in New York City. Several years after her first husband died in a bomber over Dresden Germany, she married George Dreher. In 1953, the family moved to Hicksvile NY where she has resided to her death.
Alice was active in the Mercy League of Rockville Center that helps raise money for Mercy Hospital. She was a member for over thirty years and watched the organization group grow in size and charitable works.
Memorial donations may be made in Alice's name to the Rockville Center League MMC in care of President Kara Spinelli, 340 Oak St, South Hempstead, NY 11550.
Viewing will be held on Tuesday, February 12th from 2:00 PM to 5:00 PM and 7:00 PM to 9:00 PM at the Wagner Funeral Home, 125 W Old Country Road, Hicksville NY.
A funeral mass will be held on Wednesday, February 13th, at 9:45 AM at St. Ignatius Loyola RC Church 129 Broadway, Hicksville, NY, 11801.
