Jonathan D. BARNARD

Enlisted in the 2nd Georgia Cavalry Battalion on 11 July 1862.
On 20 January 1863, he transferred to Company H, 5th Georgia Volunteer Cavalry. Jonathan was wounded in Tennessee in late October 1864 and was sent to South Georgia for 60 days on a wounded furlough. He recovered in March 1865 and attempted to reach his company. Jonathan was captured by Yankee pickets, but escaped the same night. He was unable to reach his command.

Following the war, Jonathan married Anna America ( Americus? ) Bacon, his first cousin. She was the widow of Aaron Dowdy who was killed in 1863 at Gettysburg during the War Between the States. Mr Dowdy and Anna had one son together, Aaron Dowdy, Jr. , born in 1862 and died 1928.
