Born in 1849 in Stanbridge East in the Anglo-Canadian-American Eastern Townships of Quebec. Emma was the second daughter of Horatio Nelson and Louisa Dyantha Traux Phelps also of Stanbridge East. She married at barely age 16, across the border, in St. Alban's, Vermont, U.S . on 15 January 1866. Unfortunately, she died within two years of this marriage at the young age of 18. Her death was attributed by her family to lingering birth complications of her only child, a son Calno Allen, in 1866.
