James Benjamin Wherry was born to Hardy S. Wherry and Bettie Warren on October 28, 1878 in Tennessee. He was the oldest of 7 children. He is on the 1880 Census Wilson Co., TN with his parents.

He is on the 1900 Census McClennan Co., TX with his widowed mother and 6 siblings. On the 1910 Census McLennan Co., TX he is shown with his wife , Minnie and a 5 year old son. The census shows he has been married for 7 years. He is listed as a retail merchant. His youngest brother Joe is living with them and is a delivery man for the business.

His WWI Draft Registraion card dated September 1918 shows he is living in Goose Creek, Harris Co., TX. He is married and works as a foreman for Gulf Production Company.

The 1920 Census Harris Co., TX shows him with wife Lucette (Lucille) and 2 step sons.

He married Mabel Hugonin Sorenson on February 8, 1928, in Harris Co., TX. They had a son in 1929. On the 1930 Census, Mabel's daughter by her first marriage is also living with them.

He died on February 10, 1933 Big Creek, Fort Bend Co.,TX. His occupation was shown as Field Foreman for Gulf Pipeline Company.

There is no place on the death certificate that shows the name of the cemetery where he is buried. It shows the place of burial Houston, TX. undertaker Fogel West Company.

His grave was found to be in Hollywood Cemetery in Houston, Harris Co., TX. His mother Bettie, and sister Mary Emma (Mrs. Paul) Kohrmann are also buried there.


Note: His date of birth on his WWI draft card 10-23-1875, date on Texas Death Certificate is 10-28-1878. Most census records show estimated birthdate 1875.
