Funeral services to celebrate the life of Lorraine E. McElroy, 93, a resident of Davenport, will be 10:00 a.m. Thursday, February 21, 2013 at Halligan McCabe DeVries Funeral Home, 614 Main Street, downtown Davenport. Burial will take place in Mt. Calvary Cemetery, Davenport. Visitation will be from 4:00 until 7:00 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. Lorraine died Friday, February 15, 2013 at Senior Star, Davenport.
Lorraine Edith Snead was born on July 12, 1919 in Roanoke, Virginia, a daughter of James Wilton and Minnie (Ingram) Snead. She was united in marriage to Charles R. McElroy on March 12, 1945 in Washington D.C. He preceded her in death on October 10, 1985.
Lorraine worked for the National Tea Company. She retired from Petersen Harned Von Maur in 1980.
She was a member of the Lady Elks. Lorraine cherished her family especially her grandchildren. She enjoyed bridge, traveling, being outdoors, and reading.
Memorials may be made to Assumption High School.
Mrs. McElroy is survived by her daughters: Marsha McElroy Paxton, Davenport, Peg (John) McElroy Fraser, Iowa City, Cathy (Dean) Maupin and Julia Russell, all of Davenport; grandchildren, Victoria "Tori" Smeaton, Davenport, Kimberly (Ahsan) Koupal Hamid, Chicago, Elizabeth (Michael) Maupin Belsky, Rock Island, Kristen (Lt. John) Rose, San Diego, and Karli Koupal (fiancé, Nat Graves), Chicago; great-grandchildren: Kendall and Connor Smeaton, Kennedy Rose, and Ella Belsky, a niece, Patricia (Louis) Dichiacchio, Maryland; and her family bridge partners Jeanne Watson and Dorothy "Dottie" Tucker.
The family would like to thank the staff at Senior Star, and her nurses Tonya and Diane and her therapists Tina, Sarah and Tiffany for all the loving care and compassion they have shown to Lorraine.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Charles, her parents, two brothers and three sisters.
