Rose Mary Barton Chesnut of Arnold, MO, departed this life at her home, surrounded by the love of her family, on February 17, 2013, having reached the age of seventy-two years and ten days. Rose was born in Richwoods, MO, on February 7, 1941, daughter of Adam Thomas Govero and Julia Margaret Govero nee Rogers. On December 31, 1956, she was united in marriage to Elmer R. Barton, Sr. and eleven children came to bless this union. On April 23, 1974, she was united in marriage to John Charles Chesnut and two children came to bless this union.

Rose is survived by her husband, John Chesnut of Arnold, MO; by eight sons, Wayne Barton of Potosi, MO, Thomas Barton and wife, Sheila, of Cedar Hill, MO, Elmer Barton, Jr. of Alton, IL, Clarence Barton and wife, Darlene, of Cedar Hill, Bobby Barton, Jeffrey Barton, Charles Chesnut and Christopher Chesnut all of Arnold; by three daughters, Betty Honaker and husband, John, of Cedar Hill, Rita Franklin of Crystal City, MO, and Greta Brewer and husband, Henry, of Hillsboro, MO; by two sisters, Thelma Greer of Granite City, IL, and Virginia Abbitt of Union, MO; by twenty-one grandchildren, thirty-two great-grandchildren, brothers and sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews, great and great-great-nieces and nephews, cousins, other relatives and many friends.

Rose was preceded in death by her parents, Adam and Julia Govero; by her husband, Elmer Barton, Sr.; by two children, Pamela and Stephen Barton; by one brother, Frank Govero; by five sisters, Lee Ella Blake, Wilda Adams, Florence Ramey, Pearl Marie Govero and Jean Ann Govero.

Rose was a Christian, having been raised in the Catholic faith. In more recent years, she enjoyed attending a Baptist church in the Arnold area. Rose had made caring for her home and family her career in life and she never tired of her job. Her life was centered around her family and when her children started their own families, she enjoyed babysitting for many of her grandchildren. Her hobbies and interests always included her family and going on family camping trips was a favorite pastime. The love she shared with her family and the many wonderful memories created will be treasured forever by them all.

A devoted and loving wife, mother, mother-in-law, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, sister-in-law, aunt, great and great-great-aunt, cousin and friend, she will be sadly missed and lovingly remembered by all who knew and loved her.

Funeral services were held at 10:00 AM on Wednesday, February 20, 2013 at Russell Colonial Funeral Home in St. Clair, MO, with the Rev. Jim Watson officiating. Interment was in Horine Cemetery, Richwoods, MO. Memorials may be made to Horine Cemetery, Richwoods, MO.
