Harry Bailey Bare, Sr., 78, of Bedford, died, Thursday, February 14, 2013 in Bedford Memorial Hospital. He was born in Rockbridge County on November 15, 1934 a son of the late Edwin Claude Bare and Ada Virginia Runkle Bare. Harry was a member of Forest Baptist Church and a U.S. Navy veteran. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his wife, Genevieve Rebecca Glendye Bare. He is survived by his daughters, Diana Martin and husband, Blake; Laurel Hargis and husband, David; Penny Bailey and husband, Danny; his sons, John Bare, and wife, Mary; George Bare; and Harry B. Bare, II; a brother, Tommy Lee Bare and wife, Judy; a nephew, John Thomas Bare and wife, Lori; 14 grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren and 2 great-great grandchildren; his fiance, Joann Sauthers. The family will receive friends from 4 to 6 p.m. Sunday at Burch-Messier Walnut Street Chapel, 1235 Walnut Street, Bedford. A funeral service will be held 2:00 p.m. Monday, February 18, 2013 at McElewee Chapel Cemetery, Brownsburg, VA and the family will receive friends one hour prior to the service in Brownsburg. Memorials may be made to the Bedford Fire Department, 315 Bedford Ave. Bedford, Va 24523 or the Goode Rescue Squad, 9261 Forest Rd, Goode, VA 24556.
