J. Clifford Spangler, 73, of 731 Sherwood Drive, died Thursday in Carlisle Hospital.
He was a retired schoolteacher, having taught in the Big Spring and Carlisle Area school Districts.
He was a graduate of Carlisle High School and Juniata College, where he was a member of the Acappella Choir and sang in the Bach Choir. He was a life member of the Allison United Church and Choir. He was a a member of the Pennsylvania State Education Association, the National Education Association, the Cumberland County Retired Teachers Association, the Golden Age Club and the American Association of Retired Persons.
Surviving are his wife, Ida Eugenia Smith Spangler; a son, Jacob A. IV of Reading; a sister, Margaret Belle Brannan of Carlisle and two grandsons.
Services will be held at 2: 30 p.m. Sunday at his church, with the Revs. Paul L. Herring and Dr. D. Frederick Wertz officiating. Burial will be in Mount Gilead Cemetery, Carroll Twp., Perry County.
