William was a Baptist minister in Wyoming Co., PA. He is descended from Hugo Freer - a French Huguenot of New Paltz, Ulster Co., NY. The original Freer homestead built about 1690 is still standing in New Paltz.

William and his family lived at the Frear Farm on Frear Hill, Eaton Twp., Wyoming County, PA - south of Tunkhannock. The Rev. Frear died while attending dedication services at the Keystone Academy (Now Keystone College) in Factoryville, PA

His son Rev. George Mitchell Frear D.D. was the original minister at the Centennial Baptist Church (Now First Baptist) in Wilkes-Barre, Luzerne Co., PA
