James "Jim" Curtis Kirby, Sr., 82, of Greenville, passed away peacefully on October 3, 2012 in Greenville. Jim was born July 29, 1930, in Votaw, TX to Solomon and Mary Kirby. Jim was a devoted family man, avid golfer, and a great dancer. He was invited to dance in Gene Kelly's movie And the Devil Makes Three. Jim served in the United States Air Force for over 21 years, receiving numerous awards, including Airman of the Year. Jim was a dedicated member of Alcoholics Anonymous for over 22 years, working the program diligently and helping countless others along the way. Kirby loved golf and was a well-loved fixture at Oak Creek for many years.

Jim is survived by his wife, Jan, of Greenville; daughters Darla Baker, of Greenville, Joy Gagnon of Palm Bay, FL, Mary Bryant of Wieland, TX, Sherry Orman of Garland, Karen Hare of Garland; son, Scott Roland of Arlington; a sister, Bernice Rhodes, of Alexandra, LA; grandchildren Tosha, Alexandra, Savannah, Sarah, Trey, Ginger, Michelle, and Misty; and one great-grandchild Alyssa. Jim was preceded in death by a son, James Curtis Kirby, Jr. in March of 1990. First wife Joan Carno Kirby Brodton.

Visitation will be Saturday, October 6, 2012, from 12:00 – 2:00 pm at First Pentecostal Church of God at 2615 Walnut St in Greenville. A memorial service will follow at 2:00 pm with Joyce Pattison officiating. Interment will follow on Thursday, October 11, 2012, at 3:00 pm in National Cemetery in Dallas, TX. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the American Lung Association.
