Charles J. McLinn, age 75, died Friday, November 13, 2010 at Triumph Hospital in Detroit. He was born on October 10, 1935 in Detroit, the son of the late J. Scott and the late Beatrice (nee: Bosquet) McLinn.

Throughout most of his career life, Charles worked as a Funeral Director bringing his own unique brand of service excellence in funeral care to the community. With immense dedication and a true servant's heart, he extended the utmost in compassion when it came to walking people through a most difficult time in life. Devout in his catholic faith, Charles understood the importance of comforting those in need and he touched many lives in the process.

When he wasn't working, Charles often exercized his love of music by "tickling the ivories." Proficient at playing both the piano and organ, he enjoyed soothing his soul through the music that came from within his heart. In his younger years, Charles' sporting blood would often find him in the heated, one-on-one competition of handball,...or the intense rivalry in the team sport of water polo. Both sports required immense physical strength, and Charles was always up for the challenge. To be good at water polo, you've got to love the water. And his love of the same was never more appreciated and enjoyed than when he hit the open water in a sailboat. Charles found great pleasure in sailing, and for many years was a longstanding member of the Detroit Yacht Club.

Plain & simple, Charles just loved people. He loved to laugh, and found great delight in bringing laughter and joy to the lives of others. He always had a joke to share and his own style of lightheartedness to fill the room. He loved spending time with family and friends, and devoted his life to creating the wonderful memories those relationships were built upon. He leaves behind a strong and loving legacy that will forever be remembered for the unique and genuine caregiver that he was, both inwardly and outwardly.

Beloved son of the late J.Scott & Beatrice McLinn. Dear brother of Ann McLinn-Louwers, and Scott (Sunny) McLinn. Life companion of Dolores DeSantis. Loving uncle of Lanette Louwers, Kelly (John) Maher, and Libby Prang. Great uncle of Laine, Kit and Jack Maher.

Visitation for Charles will be on Tuesday from 3-8pm at the D.S. Temrowski & Sons Funeral Home, 30009 Hoover Road at Common (12 1/2 Mile Rd) in Warren. He will lie in state on Wednesday from 9:30am until the time of Mass at 10:30am at St. Mary Catholic Church at Greektown in Detroit. Interment will follow at Mt. Olivet Cemetery in Detroit.
